Kenta Yamazaki | Lolo's "Marenahito" (A Rare Person)
Summary
The play "Marenahito" (A Rare Person) by Lolo, written and directed by Naoyuki Miura, begins with the writer Hotori Mugikawa moving in with his friend Yone Mochi. The narrative centers on Mugikawa's cherished memories of his middle school friend, Zugu, which conflict with the recollections of other classmates contacted by the editor, Gunnai, who is seeking Zugu for a bizarre wrestling move reenactment (a 'Cross Bomber'). These discrepancies reveal that Mugikawa's perception of his bond with Zugu may have been one-sided, a realization he had already faced when he saw Zugu perform at a cultural festival with another friend, not him. Although Mugikawa fails to reunite with Zugu, Zugu's son appears at the meeting spot and performs a song co-written by Mugikawa and Zugu. Ultimately, Gunnai's desired 'Cross Bomber' is achieved through a partnership between Mugikawa and Yone Mochi, suggesting that even mismatched feelings weave unexpected present and future realities. The production also introduced innovative elements like "Podcast Theater" by pre-releasing dialogue via podcast.
