The latest production, "WAVES," by Taiwan's leading contemporary dance company, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre (雲門舞集), is making its Japan debut. Founded as the first contemporary dance company in the Chinese-speaking world, the company has been presenting innovative performances since Cheng Tsung-lung took over as Artistic Director in 2020. "WAVES" is a collaboration with artist, composer, and programmer Daito Manabe, exploring the concept of waves as dynamic energy emanating from the body. The work merges dance, music, and video to invite the audience into a new realm of bodily sensation, imagining the "invisible body." After its 2023 premiere, the piece received high acclaim at the 2024 Venice Biennale (Dance section), and performances are scheduled in Yokohama and Kitakyushu.
