Coinciding with the Osaka-Kansai Expo in 2025, The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama (MOMAW) is hosting an expanded collection exhibition titled "MOMAW Collection Masterpieces Selection" across its first and second-floor galleries. This special exhibition runs concurrently with the special exhibition "Seiichi Murai: 120th Anniversary of Birth" and focuses on oil paintings from the Taisho to Showa periods (c. 1910s–1960s), particularly those by painters who aspired to and studied in Paris, similar to Murai Seiichi. Furthermore, thanks to cooperation from the Tanabe City Museum of Art, which is currently closed for renovations, excellent works by artists like I I Nakamura and Yuzo Saeki will be specially displayed. Visitors are encouraged to appreciate the "matière"—the brushwork and texture—of the oil paintings, which varies distinctly among artists and works. Exhibiting artists include I I Nakamura, Yuzo Saeki, Tetsugoro Manabe, and Shunsuke Matsumoto. The exhibition is scheduled from September 27, 2025, to January 8, 2026.
