Police announced that the body recovered from the ruins of a house completely destroyed by fire in Tani, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City on October 18th, has been identified as Toshio Taniguchi (93), the resident painter. Taniguchi was known for participating in the avant-garde art movement "Kyushu-ha" and also worked as an art educator, running the Seibu Art Academy in Fukuoka. His wife, in her 70s, sustained burns in the incident. Oil paintings owned by Taniguchi were reportedly stored at the residence. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
