The 77th Shosoin Exhibition has opened at the Nara National Museum, running from October 25th to November 10th. The Shosoin, located at Todai-ji Temple, is the only surviving example of an ancient storehouse of its kind, recognized as the world's largest wooden structure of its type and designated as a National Treasure. The approximately 9,000 treasures housed there—including items related to the Great Buddha's eye-opening ceremony and those dedicated by Empress Komyo—are managed strictly by the Imperial Household Agency and are notably not designated as National Treasures or Important Cultural Properties. This year's exhibition showcases 67 items, six of which are being displayed for the first time.
