Collection Exhibition "10th Anniversary of Death: Kinuko Emi — Focusing on Works Exhibited at the 1962 Venice Biennale" @ The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama
Summary
The Museum of Modern Art, Hayama is holding a collection exhibition titled "10th Anniversary of Death: Kinuko Emi — Focusing on Works Exhibited at the 1962 Venice Biennale," running from November 15, 2025, to February 23, 2026. Kinuko Emi (1923–2015) was a painter who made significant contributions to Japanese abstract painting and was the first Japanese woman artist to participate in the Venice Biennale. After gaining recognition, her style evolved rapidly from semi-abstract to constructive geometric abstraction, and later to "hot abstraction." This exhibition will feature all the works Emi exhibited at the 31st Venice Biennale in 1962. The museum received these works as a donation from the artist's studio in 2003 and will present them after cleaning to restore their original colors. Additionally, representative works from the museum's collection, such as "Kū no Rindai" (1978), will be shown for the first time in 15 years.
