Summary
The Yokohama Museum of Art will host the exhibition "Because We Are Always Next Door: Japan and Korea, 80 Years of Art" from December 6, 2025, to March 22, 2026. This landmark exhibition is a joint project with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, commemorating the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea. Featuring approximately 160 works by over 50 artists from both nations, the exhibition traces the history of post-war Japanese and Korean art relations from 1945 onward. The exhibition is structured across five chapters, examining themes from the period of division and the perspective of Zainichi Koreans, the connections surrounding Nam June Paik, the cultural exchange after 1965, the emergence of new generations, and contemporary issues of coexistence. It aims to offer new discoveries about the relationship between the two countries through their respective art.
