The Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art, housed in a renovated brick warehouse, will conclude its 5th-anniversary celebrations with a solo exhibition by leading contemporary Japanese painter Hiroshi Sugito, titled "Hiroshi Sugito Exhibition: flyleaf and liner" (December 5 to May 17, 2026). This exhibition focuses on the concept of "margin" or "blank space" found in overlooked areas like the back of canvases or endpapers in books. A key highlight is a collaboration with graphic designer Kazunari Hattori, featuring wallpaper designed by Hattori inspired by Sugito's work, and new paintings by Sugito influenced by that wallpaper.
