Summary
As November began, the performing arts festival "Autumn Meteorite 2025 Tokyo," held primarily at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in Ikebukuro, concluded on November 3rd. This new festival, under Artistic Director Toshiki Okada, featured innovative elements like the accessibility-focused "Welcome System" and the interactive food/information booth "Welcome Galaxy," creating a festive atmosphere in West Ikebukuro. The author was particularly impressed by one of the "Object Theater" programs, "Third Hand" by the Czech company Handa Gote Research & Development. This puppet theater piece used small objects to evoke fantastical, yet subtly dark, imagery. A key highlight was the post-performance opportunity for the audience to closely examine the intricate miniature stage sets, props, and mechanisms backstage, fostering a warm connection. The author notes that this form of performance, utilizing small stages, objects, and puppets, is gaining attention, especially with events like the Shimokitazawa International Puppet Festival (SIPF) scheduled to continue.
