The National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo (MOMAT) has announced its exhibition schedule for fiscal year 2026, which includes four special exhibitions. These are: "Anti-Action: Their Respective Responses and Challenges," which re-examines post-war avant-garde art by women artists; a major retrospective of the Japanese painter Kansai Shimomura, his first in the Kanto region in 13 years; "Hiroshi Sugimoto: Extinct Photographs," showcasing about 65 of his gelatin silver prints; and an exhibition on the diverse expressive world of Taisho Roman icon, Yumeji Takehisa. In addition to the special exhibitions, the "MOMAT Collection" exhibitions will run across two periods, featuring highlights from their vast collection, including newly acquired works.
