Bijutsu Shuppan will publish the book "Art of the End Times: For the Coming Post-Humanity" by art critic Noriaki Sawatari on December 9, 2025. This work reconfigures Sawatari's 15 years of critical activity through the lens of "art for the post-human," completing his art criticism trilogy following "Post-Art Theory" (2015) and "Shaking Art Theory" (2017). The book compiles about 50 critiques, plays, and poems, primarily based on his serialization in the web magazine "ART iT." Grounded in criticism following the Great East Japan Earthquake, it explores the "art of the end times" looking toward an era after the end of human history, referencing predecessors like Yūsuke Nakahara and Arata Isozaki. It also examines the relationship between nuclear disaster and art through artists such as Tarō Okamoto and Chim↑Pom. The central section features the full text of Sawatari's first critical play, "Grand Guignol Future." The book questions globally oriented art and posits "being truly domestic" as a condition for art for the post-human.
