Summary
The 17th annual Art and Craft Koshien, a public exhibition showcasing creative art and craft works by high school students from across Japan, is being held at the Kyoto Traditional Crafts Center in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City. This event aims to pass on Japan's traditional art and craft techniques to the next generation. An awards ceremony took place on the afternoon of December 7th, where awards were presented to the recipients. Approximately 90 entries from Hokkaido to Kyushu are on display. The Grand Prize, the highest honor, was awarded to Rikuya Yoshimura, a first-year student from Renaissance Toyota High School in Aichi Prefecture, for his *haramaki* (a type of armor) that incorporates intricate techniques like *kumihimo* (braiding). The Gold Prize went to Kano Ueshima, a third-year student from Kyoto Municipal Museum of Art and Crafts High School, for her stately desk clock, which required nearly a year of meticulous lacquer application.
