Hajime Sorayama to World Premiere New 'Motoko Kusanagi' Sculptures
Summary
Artist Hajime Sorayama has created two new sculptures modeled after Motoko Kusanagi, the iconic character from Masamune Shirow's sci-fi work *Ghost in the Shell*. These works will have their world premiere in Tokyo across two major exhibitions in 2026. One sculpture will be displayed at "SORAYAMA Light, Transparency, Reflection -TOKYO-" (March 14 - May 31, 2026, at CREATIVE MUSEUM TOKYO), and the other at the "Ghost in the Shell Exhibition" (January 30 - April 5, 2026, at TOKYO NODE). Both pieces intersect Sorayama's long-pursued aesthetics of "human body and machinery" with the series' enduring theme of the "boundary between humans and machines." These large-scale works, standing approximately 3 meters tall and combining mirrored and transparent materials, are expected to showcase a new horizon in futuristic bodily expression.
