Matsuzo|“Seto Contemporary Art Exhibition 2025"
Summary
The “Seto Contemporary Art Exhibition 2025” was held at the former Otago Higashihokubu Wholesale Market in Aichi Prefecture. This exhibition, the third of its kind held every three years, focuses on artists connected to Seto and is also linked to the international art festival “Aichi 2025.” A notable aspect of the exhibition was its location in a former agricultural direct sales center. The venue, which included the former “Seto no Sato” direct sales area, featured a wide range of works including paintings, sculptures, photographs, videos, and installations. Many pieces creatively utilized the original tools of the space, such as pedestals, apple boxes, and cardboard for produce. The exhibition also included an archive booth dedicated to artists Asai Masuo and Nakatake Hisao, who were active in Seto during the 1960s, highlighting the roots of local art festivals. The exhibition reflected Seto’s unique environment where art and exchange flourish in spaces connected to people’s lives and activities, and also hinted at collaboration with the art project “Alternative Rice Field” in Toyota City.
