From Edo Paintings to "Brillo Box": Variations in the Art Collection Gathered by Tottori Prefecture!/Tori-net/Tottori Prefectural Government Official Website
Summary
This special exhibition, held from February 28 to March 22, 2026, at the Tottori Prefectural Museum, introduces the variety of art collected by Tottori Prefecture over more than 50 years. The selection is organized around three themes: "Art of Tottori Prefecture," "Excellent Art from Japan and Abroad," and "Works Indicating Trends in Contemporary Art." The display features works by Edo-period painters, crafts related to the Mingei movement since the modern era, and pieces by representative Tottori artists like Kanji Maeda and Shoji Ueda. Furthermore, it includes recently acquired works such as Andy Warhol's "Brillo Box," pieces by French painter Georges Rouault, and works by contemporary Japanese artists like Yasumasa Morimura, offering a glimpse into the expanding appeal of Tottori's art collection. This exhibition serves as a preview of the collection that will be featured in the Tottori Prefectural Museum, scheduled to open on March 30.
