Special Exhibition "Jakuchu, Rinpa, Kyoto Art - The Sparkling Hosomi Collection" [2026 Nishi-Nippon Shimbun Organized Event]
Summary
The special exhibition, "Jakuchu, Rinpa, Kyoto Art - The Sparkling Hosomi Collection," organized by Nishi-Nippon Shimbun, will be held at the Kyushu National Museum from April 21 to June 14, 2026. This exhibition features numerous masterpieces from the vast collection of the Hosomi Museum, which was built over approximately 80 years by three generations of the Hosomi family: Ryō Hosomi (the first generation), Minoru (the second), and Yoshiyuki (the third). Highlights include Buddhist crafts cherished by the first generation, such as the Important Cultural Property "Gilt Bronze Kasuga Shika Goshōtai," and works from the Rinpa school, including paintings by Sakai Hōitsu and Suzuki Kiitsu, which the second generation passionately collected. The exhibition also showcases works by Jakuchu, such as "Rooster in the Snow," collected proactively before the recent Jakuchu boom, allowing visitors to appreciate the essence of Japanese art.
