CURATION⇄FAIR Tokyo Held Again This Year at kudan house. Exhibition "Beauty, Ambiguity, Depending on Time and Circumstance" Also Reaches Its Final Chapter
Summary
CURATION⇄FAIR Tokyo, consisting of a curator-led exhibition and an art fair, will be held again this year at the registered tangible cultural property, kudan house, in Kudan, Tokyo. The exhibition, "Beauty, Ambiguity, Depending on Time and Circumstance," runs from January 23rd to February 8th, followed by the art fair from February 13th to 15th. This exhibition, curated by Mizuki Endo, marks the third iteration and serves as the final chapter of a series that began in 2024. It attempts to multilayeredly decipher the relationship between modern Japanese history and art, starting from the Nobel Prize lectures of Yasunari Kawabata and Kenzaburō Ōe. The exhibition spans multiple parts crossing eras and genres, including Joseon white porcelain, Meiji/post-war art, and new works by contemporary artists. Set against the historical context of kudan house—a building spared from wartime destruction, born from the lessons of the Great Kanto Earthquake—it illuminates the state of Japanese art alongside modernization, war, and natural disasters.
