Mori Art Museum Honorary Chairman Yoshiko Mori Passes Away
Summary
The Mori Art Museum announced that its Honorary Chairman, Yoshiko Mori, passed away on December 23, 2025, due to pneumonia at the age of 85. Ms. Mori graduated from Tokyo Woman's Christian University in 1964 and became a director at Mori Building in 2000. She co-founded the Mori Art Museum with the late Minoru Mori (founder of the museum and Chairman of Mori Building Co., Ltd.) in 2003 and served as its Chairman until December 2024, succeeded by Kyoko Mori. She was appointed Honorary Chairman in January 2025 and had just established the Mori Contemporary Art Foundation in May of the same year. Ms. Mori maintained strong international networks, serving as a Trustee for the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and as an International Council Member for MoMA and Tate. Her contributions were recognized with the Chevalier of the Legion d'honneur from France in 2013 and an honorary OBE from the UK in February 2025. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
