Donald Judd's Furniture and Artworks Available at Isetan Shinjuku Store. "Donald Judd: Design" Starts in February
Summary
The Isetan Shinjuku store will host "Donald Judd: Design" from February 7th to March 8th, featuring the furniture and artworks of Donald Judd, a leading figure in Minimal Art. Judd, known for his critical role in the 1960s Minimal Art movement, designed functional furniture alongside his fine art, both sharing a core philosophy emphasizing logic, transparency, and the avoidance of artificiality. This exhibition, a collaboration between Isetan Shinjuku and the Judd Foundation, is rare as it displays both furniture and art simultaneously. The furniture section is organized by material—wood, plywood, and sheet metal—showcasing pieces designed for his own spaces in New York and Marfa. Additionally, the exhibition will feature four complete sets of his prints, including a 20-piece woodblock set, allowing visitors to experience Judd's philosophy regarding the relationship between art and daily life within the department store setting.
