The Shiga Museum of Art launches a new project "ASK" in the Kohoku region. The first installment is "Lullaby of a Million Years" by Kyun-Chome.
Summary
The Shiga Museum of Art has launched a new contemporary art project called "Art Spot in Kohoku (ASK)" spanning three years across the three cities of Takashima, Maibara, and Nagahama in the northern Lake Biwa (Kohoku) region. The project aims to connect contemporary art with the region's rooted landscape, history, and living culture, with "ASK" also implying posing questions to the viewer's mind. The inaugural exhibition features the artist unit Kyun-Chome (formed by Eri Homma and Nabuchi) in the Katsuno district of Takashima City, utilizing three traditional houses that retain the atmosphere of a castle town. Titled "Lullaby of a Million Years," the exhibition draws inspiration from the long history of life around ancient Lake Biwa and will present an experience focused on water, life, and the overlapping of time. Future installments of the ASK series are planned for Maibara in fiscal year 2026 and Nagahama in fiscal year 2027.
