Vermeer's Masterpiece "Girl with a Pearl Earring" to Visit Japan for the First Time in 14 Years, Opening This Summer at Osaka Nakanoshima Museum of Art
Summary
Johannes Vermeer's masterpiece, "Girl with a Pearl Earring," a representative work of the Dutch Golden Age, will be exhibited in Japan for the first time in approximately 14 years. The painting, owned by the Mauritshuis in The Hague, is rarely loaned out, making this a significant event following its last Japanese appearance in 2012-2013. The current visit is made possible by the temporary closure of the Mauritshuis for renovation work. The exhibition will be held at the Osaka Nakanoshima Museum of Art from August 21 to September 27. The museum director noted that this might be the "last special opportunity" to present the work directly to the Japanese public. The exhibition, organized by the Osaka Nakanoshima Museum of Art and others, will feature Dutch Golden Age paintings, but this showing will be exclusive to Osaka with no further touring planned.
