The exhibition "Tokyo Melody | Popup" is currently being held at WALL_alternative in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, to commemorate the theatrical release of the 4K restored version of Ryuichi Sakamoto's documentary, "Tokyo Melody Ryuichi Sakamoto." Originally made in 1984, the film was recently rediscovered on 16mm film, restored, and digitized for its return to the big screen. The exhibition showcases valuable archival materials offering a glimpse into Sakamoto's ideas from that era, including portraits of Sakamoto and Tokyo landscapes, the original 1984 screening pamphlet, and visual books visualizing his album "Ongaku Zukan." It also features items tracing his career, such as his latest work "Opus" and the "Year Book" series, alongside collaboration merchandise and food/drinks recreating flavors Sakamoto loved. The event will conclude with a talk session featuring Katsuhiko Hibino and Minoru Hatanaka, who will discuss the cultural landscape of Tokyo in 1984.
