Ota City Museum of Art and Library to Hold First Collection Exhibition Since Opening: "Three Times Surrounding the Collection"
Summary
The Ota City Museum of Art and Library in Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, which opened in 2017, is hosting its first collection exhibition since its inauguration, titled "Three Times Surrounding the Collection." As the museum lacks a permanent exhibition space, this marks the first time it is comprehensively showcasing its collection. The exhibition focuses not only on the collected works but also on the architectural environment, textiles, lighting, and signage that influence the viewing experience. To deepen understanding of the collection, related works borrowed from other institutions will also be displayed. Featured artists include three deceased figures significant to Gunma's culture: Setsuya Nakamura (who served as Chairman of the Gunma Prefectural Art Association), Shokansai Iizuka (designated Living National Treasure in bamboo craft), and Jo Shoda (former Chairman of the Gunma Prefectural Art Association and recipient of the Ota Citizen's Cultural Merit Award), alongside contemporary figures KIKI (model and photographer) and Taisuke Fujiwara (painter known for meticulously reconstructing real cityscapes).
