"Judd | Marfa Exhibition" to be held at Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art. Focusing on the creative base of Minimal Art master Donald Judd.
Summary
The Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo will hold the retrospective exhibition "Judd | Marfa Exhibition" from February 15th to June 7th. This exhibition re-examines the work of Donald Judd, a representative figure of Minimalism, by focusing on Marfa, Texas, where he established his base from the 1970s onward. The exhibition will feature early paintings from the 1950s, three-dimensional works from the 1960s to the 1990s, and various materials such as drawings, plans, videos, and documents related to the spaces Judd created in Marfa. After leaving New York, Judd moved to Marfa and renovated existing military facilities, warehouses, and residences into spaces for living and creation, eventually establishing The Chinati Foundation to permanently display his works alongside those of artists like Dan Flavin and John Chamberlain.
