Exhibition of Art Depicting Sanriku's Nature with Junior and Senior High School Students: Musashino Art University and Ishinomaki City
Summary
The "Forest and Sea Art Exhibition," a collaboration between Musashino Art University (Tokyo) and Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, is currently taking place at the Ishinomaki City Museum. This exhibition showcases the results of two years of work centered on the nature of the Sanriku region.
Oil painter and University President Sachikazu Kabayama exhibited two large-scale works depicting the Ojika Peninsula and Jomon-period stone circles on Dejima in Onagawa Town, alongside 12 other oil paintings and drawings. President Kabayama noted that the peninsula is a place where "forest and sea boldly and powerfully meet," conveying a sense of life, death, divinity, and vital force, and stated that meeting Ishinomaki gave him a "good opportunity to gain new perspectives."
Junior and senior high school students who participated in the university's art workshop sketched various locations, including beaches on the Ojika Peninsula, and completed 21 pieces with guidance from the president and university students. Participating students expressed their hopes that their art would move people and noted their growth through interaction with university students. The exhibition runs until March 15th.
