Tadao Ando, Herzog & de Meuron, Jean Nouvel: NOT A HOTEL Announces New Projects with Master Architects
Summary
NOTA, the company behind NOT A HOTEL, has announced new projects with world-renowned architects. The newly revealed projects include one by Tadao Ando and one by Basel-based Herzog & de Meuron. Additionally, the latest visuals for "NOT A HOTEL YAKUSHIMA" by Ateliers Jean Nouvel, which was previously announced, have been released. Tadao Ando and his office are designing villas along the coast of the Kinki region. The design features circular roofs and organically shaped water basins, creating a geometric space that overlays straight and curved lines while using concrete, a material Ando has pursued for many years. The plan includes five villas placed along the slope of a peninsula surrounded by rich nature. While based on a strict grid, the heights vary according to the terrain, blending the architecture into the forest and sea scenery. The villa at the tip of the peninsula across the bay will have a circular form with a void at its center open to the sky. Ando commented on the plan: "The beautiful and intense scenery of the peninsula. How to create architecture that does not lose to its power? It is extremely difficult. But it is an exciting challenge."
