"NOT A MUSEUM" Opens for a Limited Time at the Former Site of "Imperial Hotel Plaza Tokyo," Co-operated with SKWAT
Summary
NOT A CITY Inc., part of the NOTA Inc. group, will open "NOT A MUSEUM," a limited-time cultural complex, in the former Imperial Hotel Plaza Tokyo site within the Imperial Hotel Tokyo Tower Building, from summer 2027 to March 2031. The approximately 2,000 tsubo space will be co-planned, produced, and operated with SKWAT, with spatial design by DAIKEI MILLS (led by SKWAT founder Keisuke Nakamura) and NOT A HOTEL ARCHITECTS. Based on the concept "CULTURE, IN THE MAKING.," it aims to give new purpose to the closed facility, blending art, books, music, fashion, and video into an evolving experience. Nakamura commented that "time" is key to inheriting history and building new culture, while Imperial Hotel expressed expectations for the new cultural hub. Additionally, NOT A HOTEL Inc. will change its name to NOTA Inc. in October 2026, expanding into mobility, housing, and urban development. NOT A CITY is also developing projects like "JAPA VALLEY TOKYO" with Mitsubishi Estate, envisioning new uses for unused urban spaces.
