"International Art Exhibition TOKYO ATLAS" Opening Report: Unraveling the History of the Tokyo Bay Area and Connecting It to the Present
Summary
The international art exhibition "TOKYO ATLAS" has opened in the Tokyo Bay area and runs until December 20. The executive committee chairman is Masanori Aoyagi, and the artistic directors are Tatehata Akira and Akiko Miki. The title "ATLAS" derives from the mythical giant Atlas who supports the world and the word for a book of maps, aiming to transform the act of touring artworks scattered throughout the city into an experience of drawing a new map. By inserting art into the daily life of the city, it attempts to give new perspectives on existing landscapes, infrastructure, and historical memory. The exhibition is based on the originally planned "Tokyo Odaiba Triennale 2025" and has restarted under a new system led by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, with the Tokyo Metropolitan Foundation for History and Culture newly participating. The main venues are in three areas: Aomi, Odaiba, and Tennozu. In the Aomi area, two balloon works by Yayoi Kusama are displayed at the Telecom Center, and at Aomi Minami Pier Park, performances by Abraham Poincheval and works by Yuji Takaoka and Haroon Mirza, as well as the "Goat's Eye" project by Ozawa Tsuyoshi Laboratory, are presented.
