Yokohama immersive museum "THE MOVEUM YOKOHAMA by TOYOTA GROUP" renews. An immersive experience where the worlds of Impressionism and ukiyo-e intersect
Summary
The immersive museum "THE MOVEUM YOKOHAMA by TOYOTA GROUP" at Yamashita Pier in Yokohama reopened on October 24 with a new program, "Impressionist Monet and Ukiyo-e [The Japanese Beauty That Captivated Monet]," running until March 31, 2027. The program focuses on the connection between Claude Monet and Japanese ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige, and Kitagawa Utamaro. It projects works by Monet and other Impressionists as large-scale visuals across the entire space, fused with music, architecture, and sound. The program consists of eight chapters, from "Prologue: Sunrise" to "Epilogue: Sunset, Light and Shadow." Beyond the main theater, there is a "Monet's Dining Room" inspired by Monet's house in Giverny, where ukiyo-e prints were displayed, and an "Ukiyo-e Gallery" introducing the history, expression, and craftsmanship behind ukiyo-e. The museum also screens "WHITE NIGHT," a new work from the "ONE MOMENT" series of actor Tomoko Yamaguchi's project "LISTEN.," which blends immersive art with footage of sounds and nature from around the world, as well as winning works from the "Toyota Dream Car Art Contest" as immersive footage. Toyota's mobility vehicle "e-Palette" transports visitors from the entrance to the exhibition space, with autonomous driving demonstrations also planned in this renewal.
