Nurturing Community through Diverse Programs: A Report on "InSitu2 – Ibasho (Place)" at Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo
Summary
Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo presents "InSitu2 – Ibasho (Place)," a program running from October 24 to November 27. "InSitu2" is a collaborative project linking Espace Louis Vuitton venues in Tokyo, Munich, and Beijing, as part of Louis Vuitton's long-standing commitment to the arts. In 2015, "IN SITU-1" first connected Paris, Tokyo, and Munich, focusing on "locality" with female artists. This time, artists based in each city are invited to develop unique projects themed around their local creative scenes. The program includes performances, talks, and participatory events where artists, performers, writers, and local communities explore cultural exchange and transformation. Tokyo's theme is "Ibasho" (place), addressing not only physical space but also how space transforms through actions, repeated gestures, shared time, and evoked memories. The venue is open not just for viewing artworks but as a place for visitors to stay and spend time, welcoming people from diverse backgrounds. Activities are varied: rakugo performances on the theme of place, Noh theater performed outside traditional stages, DJs and jam sessions exploring the sense of place in music, guest talks, and literary gatherings addressing place as a social question. Educational programs include workshops for all ages, film screenings, and weekly Sunday workshops for children. The venue can be visited even on days without events, allowing visitors to experience the space itself freely—reading, resting, or interacting with others.
