Public Lecture Series at Akita University of Art Graduate School: Six Consecutive Sessions on Contemporary Art and Composite Art (Minna no Keizai Shimbun Network)
Summary
A public lecture series titled "Composite Art and Contemporary Art: Masters of Contemporary Art" began on October 18 at the Akita University of Art Graduate School in Akita City. Planned by Fukuzumi Ren, an associate professor at the graduate school and an art critic, the series will run for six sessions until March next year. Six guest lecturers—artists and researchers active at the forefront of diversifying contemporary art—will speak, with university faculty serving as commentators. The first session drew about 20 attendees and featured artist Tanaka Nobuyuki, who discussed lacquer expression methods and his challenges toward new forms beyond traditional lacquer art. Upcoming lectures will feature Uchida Aguri on "nikawa" (animal glue), Kazama Sachiko on "printmaking," Shirakawa Masao on "total art," Kumakura Junko on "art projects," and Ushiro Ryuta on "当事者性" (lived experience/positionality). Fukuzumi invites participation, noting that guests' works and tools will be displayed, offering a chance to encounter diverse expressions along the flow of art history, and expressing hope that the community will deepen its understanding of the value of composite art research. Dates are October 31, November 4, December 13, January 11 next year (at Akita City Cultural Creation Center), and March 20 next year; times are 15:00–17:00 (14:00–16:00 on March 20). Admission is free and no registration is required.
