Summary
The art event "Kunitachi Art Center 2026" will be held in Kunitachi City, Tokyo, from November 7 to 15, organized by the general incorporated association ACKT. The event treats the entire town as a single art center, using galleries, ateliers, and public spaces scattered around the city as venues; this seventh edition takes place at 11 locations, including the plaza in front of the south exit of JR Kunitachi Station. This year's theme is "/home/ (home directory)," focusing on the various "places of belonging" in daily life and inviting visitors to walk through the town as if it were a museum. A highlight is four works at the JR Kunitachi Station south exit plaza: Atsuhiko Misawa's animal sculpture "Animal 2016-01B," Tetsuo Yamaji's "Igeta no Mori," URBAN KNIT × magnecto.'s "Snack Okaeri," and Toru Oyamada's "Otouchan Bento," creating new scenery in the busy public space. "Snack Okaeri" in particular presents a snack bar with nothing for sale in front of the station, where a "daily Mama" hosts irregularly from 18:00 to 20:00 during the event, offering encounters and exchange between people as art itself. A participatory project also lets visitors write their own "home" or "place of belonging" on stickers distributed at venues and paste them at the plaza.
