Art Collaboration Kyoto 2026 Opening Report: 63 Galleries from Around the World Show a New Form of "Collaboration" in Kyoto
Summary
The contemporary art fair Art Collaboration Kyoto (ACK) 2026 opened at the National Kyoto International Conference Center in Takaragaike, Kyoto, running from November 7 to 9. A preview for press and invited guests was held on November 6. Now in its sixth edition since starting in 2021, ACK's defining feature is its "Gallery Collaboration" format, in which domestic galleries invite overseas galleries to share a single booth, aiming to create unexpected combinations of works and new relationships between artists. This year, 63 galleries from 18 countries and regions and 24 cities are participating. Although the number is down from last year's record 72 galleries, increased applications for larger booths have expanded the scale of the exhibition environment. A major change this year is the renewal of the management structure: a "Leadership Committee" of seven directors has been established, replacing program director Yukako Yamashita, who has taken on the role of Chairperson of "ACK Ambassadors" and continues to support the fair's international network building. Accordingly, rather than setting a single overarching theme, the fair has shifted to a policy in which each program develops its own distinctive character. Under the new structure, the concept of "collaboration" is being expressed through various exhibitions and programs.
