Exhibition Details for V&A's "Diva" Exhibition Revealed, Including a Special Japan Display Focusing on Akihiro Miwa
Summary
The exhibition layout for the "Diva" exhibition, running from March 24 to July 19, 2027, at the National Art Center, Tokyo in Roppongi, has been announced. Originally organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in London in 2023, the exhibition has toured five countries worldwide, with Tokyo being the only and final venue in Asia. It introduces approximately 100 singers and performers active in opera, stage, film, and popular music, tracing the history and evolving concept of the diva from the 19th century to the present. The exhibition features about 280 items, including valuable costumes and materials from the V&A collection and private collections. Centered on about 60 costumes actually worn by divas such as Maria Callas, Marilyn Monroe, Adele, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Rihanna, and Björk in memorable scenes, it also showcases photographs, videos, magazines, posters, LPs, and prints inspired by divas. Additionally, a special Japan-exclusive display focusing on Akihiro Miwa will be developed.
