Art Week Tokyo: AWT FOCUS 2026
Summary
From November 4 to November 8, 2026, Art Week Tokyo (AWT) will connect museums and galleries across Tokyo with free shuttle buses. As part of this event, the exhibition program AWT FOCUS will be held simultaneously at ten galleries and art spaces in Tokyo. AWT FOCUS began in 2023 as a "buyable exhibition" and is now in its fourth edition; this year it has been revamped into a circuit-style series of exhibitions through a collaboration with the Vienna gallery festival Curated by. A selection committee consisting of Misako Rosen (owner of Misako & Rosen) and Rafael Oberhuber (board member of Curated by Vienna) has selected ten exhibitions. This article introduces three of them. Natsumi Aoyagi: "Possible Words, Possible World" at MISA SHIN GALLERY is the artist's first solo exhibition at the gallery, curated by Jaemin Shin, and centers on "New Land Register" (2024), which considers records of reclaimed land, and "Relationship Name Demonstration" (2025), which explores relationships beyond the framework of ownership through Japan's family registry system. Koji Kamoji: "Everyday Life" at Take Ninagawa, curated by Maria Brewińska, focuses on everyday activities that sustain life and humanity even in extreme crisis, taking as its starting point the story of love at Auschwitz and featuring works such as "The Auschwitz Room" (2025) and "Passing Wind" (1975/2026). Mary Weatherford: "Komorebi" at Shibunkaku Ginza is the artist's first solo exhibition in Japan, curated by Jeremy Strick, and features the "Summer Forest" series painted on kozo paper as well as a neon work. The dates of each exhibition vary by venue and continue after AWT ends.
