The Hakone Museum of Art in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, has undergone a comprehensive renovation of its facilities and exhibition environments, with a pre-opening on October 30 and a grand opening on December 23. The main building's exterior has been restored to its original traditional color, 'torinoko-iro' (a pale yellow), harmonizing with its distinctive blue tiles. During the pre-opening, the usually closed 'inner garden' will be opened to the public, allowing visitors to enjoy autumn scenery at the moss garden and stone garden. A new café features a counter crafted by Murayama Akira, a Living National Treasure and important intangible cultural property holder in woodworking, offering specialty coffee and original breads in a serene space overlooking Mount Myoho and the moss garden. Additionally, the tea room 'Shinwa-tei' will serve matcha grown using natural farming methods along with seasonal Japanese sweets.
