Obayashi Foundation announced on September 1, 2026, the sixth public recruitment for its 2027 production grant program, 'Urban Vision.' The program supports artists from Japan and abroad who explore urban issues from perspectives different from conventional city planning, aiming to propose new or ideal urban forms. Applicants must meet five criteria: approximately 15 years of activity in contemporary art (regardless of nationality, age, or genre), international exhibition experience, a strong motivation to conduct independent research on cities and propose new urban visions, experience with solo exhibitions or large-scale projects, and the ability to share research findings with society and produce a public presentation and a documentary booklet during the grant period. Entry is open until September 15, 2026, with applications accepted from September 15 to October 15, 2026, at 13:00. The grant period runs from April 1, 2027, to March 31, 2029. Past recipients include Seiichi Aida (2017), Syster Gates (2019), exonemo (2021), Im Minuk (2023), and Ho Rui An (2025). This shift from a recommendation-based selection to an open call broadens participation.
