Summary
Kyoto University of the Arts announced the 'Sakamoto Ryuichi Lab at KUA' concept as a new creative base for its 50th anniversary in 2027. The project aims to pass on Ryuichi Sakamoto's works, instruments, materials, and his cross-disciplinary approach to the next generation, connecting them with new creations by students and artists. Project producer Hisashige Sotaro explained that the goal is not just to preserve and display Sakamoto's legacy, but to connect the next generation with the creative processes inscribed in them. The lab is planned to consist of a music production studio, an archive, a library, and a lounge for interaction among artists and students. It is conceived as a platform that goes beyond music to encompass video, art, technology, environment, and society, hosting collaborative production, workshops, research, and events.
