The Kyōto YouMe Triennale is a new international event that spans art, design, and crafts, taking place in Kyoto from October 9 to 18. The triennale explores the value of "making" in contemporary contexts, positioning art, design, and crafts as fundamental human activities. In its inaugural "MANIFESTO Edition," a diverse range of creators—including ten emerging Japanese artists, Italian contemporary artists, designers from Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, British graphic designer/artist Harry Pearce, and Afghanistan's Project Blue—participate. At Shōseien Garden, curator Ine Kanazawa presents "Adaptive Radiation," showcasing works by Japanese emerging artists who draw on craft and traditional techniques to revive forgotten or outdated practices. At the same venue, curator Maria Vittoria Baravelli's "Le Mani Pensano" features four Italian artists who contemplate the act of making as a meditative process, exploring the question, "Can hands think?" Additionally, curator Sheikha Al‑Sulaiti presents "Design As Memory," with designers from Qatar and the UAE redefining buildings, objects, and textiles as "active and permanent cultural records" that encode societal conditions, technical habits, and inner values, proposing a design methodology that rejects mass production and disposable culture.
