The project aims to transfer Sakamoto Ryuichi's musical assets, including works, materials, equipment, and instruments, to the campus facility "Uryuyama-so" and create a place for learning and experimentation for the next generation of creators. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, with studio operations starting in 2028. The project was initiated following a consultation from the Sakamoto Ryuichi Estate, which wished to utilize the assets left after his death for future learning and creation. Sakamoto had a deep connection with Kyoto and the university through collaborative projects. The lab will symbolize the university's new mission, "Unlocking creativity worldwide," as part of its 50th-anniversary initiatives.
