Hideki Takahashi, an art artist living in Kurashiki City, Okayama, and a recipient of the Order of Culture, passed away on August 29 at the age of 96 due to pneumonia. Takahashi was active as an artist in Italy for 41 years before relocating his base to Kurashiki in 2004 to continue his creative work. He received high acclaim both domestically and internationally, including winning the Japan Art Academy Prize, and was selected as a Person of Cultural Merits in 2020. In 2024, a special exhibition summarizing his 70-year career was held at the Kurashiki City Art Museum, where he appeared in good spirits. A farewell ceremony will be held on October 7 at the Sohto Shrine Budokan in Kita-ku, Okayama City, following a private wake and funeral for close relatives.
