Yuichi Hirako "HUMAN AND NATURE" (Tokyo Midtown Hibiya Hall) Report: Re-encountering Nature While Traversing Scales

Tokyo Art Beat
Yuichi Hirako's large-scale solo exhibition "HUMAN AND NATURE" at Tokyo Midtown Hibiya Hall explores the relationship between nature and humans.

Summary

As the inaugural event at the newly opened Tokyo Midtown Hibiya Hall on the 6th floor of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, contemporary artist Yuichi Hirako's large-scale solo exhibition "HUMAN AND NATURE" will be held from September 5 to October 18, 2025. The exhibition is curated by Yuji Akimoto (GO FOR KOGEI Artistic Director). Born in Okayama in 1982, Hirako has been exploring the relationship between humans and nature through paintings, sculptures, and installations, using motifs of figures with plant heads. This exhibition follows his previous shows in Okayama: "IDEAL LANDSCAPE" (Nagi Museum of Contemporary Art, 2024) and "Setouchi Art Museum Collaboration Project: Yuichi Hirako Exhibition ORIGIN" (Okayama Prefectural Museum of Art, 2025). The venue is a commercial facility not designed as a museum, so Hirako constructed a new immersive space by adding walls. The exhibition features contrasting scales and materials, including wooden curved structures and mobiles up to 3.5 meters tall. In this unique location where urban life and rich nature coexist, Hirako re-examines the relationship between humans and nature.
