Special Exhibition: How to Walk Through Asian Art - South Asia Special Edition - Beyond Confrontation: A Journey Through Veins of Light

美術展ナビ
A special exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum explores the diverse art and resilient cultures of seven South Asian nations.

Summary

This special exhibition at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, part of the 2026 "How to Walk Through Asian Art" series, focuses on South Asia, covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives. It presents an expanded scale with new and recent works alongside the museum's collection, aiming to introduce the region's art and culture in an accessible way. The exhibition explores how, despite a history of colonialism, religious conflict, and social division that still impacts society, artists have persistently expressed their identities and created powerful works. Part One features eight leading contemporary South Asian artists, tracing their dynamic creative trajectories over two decades. Part Two, organized around three themes—"Energy Lived in the Streets," "Beyond Confrontation," and "Living Tradition and Myth Today"—displays approximately 100 works to reveal the depth of South Asian art through stories of coexisting sacred and secular life. Ultimately, the exhibition invites visitors on a "journey through veins of light," seeking the invisible connections that flow beneath historical and political divides.
