A special exhibition titled "Enjoying Ukiyo-e Landscape Paintings: Hiroshige + Hokusai" will be held at the Ashiya City Museum of Art & History in Hyogo Prefecture, focusing on the landscape prints of ukiyo-e artists Utagawa Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai. The exhibition runs from October 22 to January 17, 2027. It will showcase 141 carefully selected works from popular series such as Hiroshige's "Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō" and "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo," and Hokusai's "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji." The works are presented under diverse themes including "Weather and Seasons," "Time of Day," "Depiction of People," "Composition and Devices," "Pleasures of the Highway," "Famous Places of Edo," "Famous Places of the Provinces," "Hiroshige's Fuji," and "Hiroshige's Bird-and-Flower Prints." The exhibition offers an opportunity to deeply appreciate the perspectives and techniques of both masters. Additionally, as a related program, the museum's first-floor historical materials exhibition room will simultaneously display Hokusai Manga and ukiyo-e by Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.
