The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto has announced that it will renew its museum cafe, reopening it in April 2027. The cafe will be operated by Kyoto-based Ogawa Coffee Creaties, and will be tentatively named "Ogawa Coffee The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto Store". Prior to this, from January to March 2027, the museum will renovate the area around its first-floor entrance, expanding terrace seating along the Lake Biwa Canal and accommodating takeout as well as in-store use. It is expected to become a new resting spot for visitors to the Okazaki Park area. Ogawa Coffee is a Kyoto coffee roaster founded in 1952, with stores mainly in Kyoto and the "OGAWA COFFEE LABORATORY" in Tokyo; this will be its first location in a cultural facility. The museum was founded in 1963, and its current building, designed by Fumihiko Maki, opened in 1986. Its collection spans crafts such as ceramics, lacquerware, and textiles, as well as Japanese-style painting, Western-style painting, prints, sculpture, and photography, with a particular focus on art from western Japan including Kyoto.
