The 71st Nagasaki Prefectural Art Exhibition is being held at the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum. As the largest open-call exhibition in the prefecture, it received 1,130 entries this year across categories including painting, calligraphy, and photography, with 720 winning and selected works on display. The top Seibo Peace Prize was awarded to Choi Su-ryeo (65) of Nagasaki City for her photograph "Dynamic." The Noguchi Yataro Prize, aimed at nurturing new talent and open to artists under 40 in the Western painting category, went to Shizuno Wakana (19), a native of Isahaya City and a second-year student at Hiroshima City University, for her oil painting "Ambiguous." Wakana graduated from Nagasaki Nichidai High School and studies oil painting in the university's art faculty. Her award-winning work, modeled on her younger sister, explores the theme of everyday memories that become ambiguous over time. The exhibition runs at the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum until October 4, and will then travel in scaled-down versions to the Shimase Art Center in Sasebo City, the Isahaya City Museum of Art and History, the Petroleum Stockpile Memorial Hall in Shin-Kamigoto Town, and the Hasami Town Hall.
