The first part of the "Kawabata Ryuko Plus One" exhibition, "Rikako Kawauchi: LOVE, Wild Grape, Tiger, heart," opened at the Ota Ward Ryuko Memorial Museum in Omori, Tokyo, and runs until November 8. It is curated by museum curators Takuya Kimura and Aimi Aoki. Since 2021, the museum has held exhibitions in collaboration with the collection of psychiatrist and art collector Ryutaro Takahashi. This "Kawabata Ryuko Plus One" project aims to re-examine the works of Japanese painter Ryuko Kawabata (1885–1966) by presenting them alongside Takahashi's collection. The first part features Rikako Kawauchi, and the second part will feature Aki Kondo, reinterpreting Kawabata's expression through dialogue between their works and his, as the 60th anniversary of his death approaches. Rikako Kawauchi was born in Tokyo in 1990. She graduated from Tama Art University's Department of Painting, Oil Painting Course in 2015 and completed her master's degree there in 2017. She has expressed themes such as the body, life, and otherness, drawing from food and mythology.
