"Gero Art Discovery 2026" has opened in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. Fifty-nine artist groups from 14 countries and regions are participating, with four venues: the Gero Onsen town, the Hagiwara shopping street, the former Yuyu Elementary School, and the forest of the Minami-Hida Health Promotion Center. The event runs until November 8. Fram Kitagawa serves as general director, and the theme is "art" and "discovery." The aim is for visitors to relax in the hot springs, free their senses, and reflect on the region and themselves. The festival builds on "Minami-Hida Art Discovery," a major program of the 2024 National Cultural Festival, and has been expanded to three areas and four venues in Gero. Each venue is a place where Gero's daily life has accumulated; touring them reveals a side of Gero that cannot be contained by the label of a hot spring town.
