TOKAS Project Vol. 9 "Reenacting Being" @ Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo
Summary
Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) presents "Reenacting Being" as the ninth edition of its TOKAS Project, held from October 3 to November 8, 2026, at its Hongo location. Marking the 20th anniversary of TOKAS's exchange with four partner institutions in Seoul since 2006, the exhibition features five Japan- and Korea-based artists—Eun Jae-pil, Kim Dohee, Koo Donghee, Park Minha, and Mino Arata—who reweave reality through their bodily experiences. The exhibition is organized under five themes: "Reenacting History," "Reenacting the Continuity of Life," "Reenacting the Human through Technology," "Reenacting the Physicality of the Female Role (Onnagata)," and "Reenacting Bodily Sensation in Contemporary Society." Through fiction, sculpture, digital media, and physical expression, the artists do not merely reproduce the past but embody reality—including memory and emotion—as an ongoing present, reconsidering how life exists today. Related events include an artist talk, a performance by Eun Jae-pil, a theatrical performance written by Mino Arata and directed by Hiroki Yamamoto, and a special talk on the Korean contemporary art scene by guest Yuki Konno.
