The Minamiuonuma Art Exhibition (Nangyo-ten) is a public art exhibition that began in 1968 to provide a venue for local artists to present and appreciate works, aiming to promote regional art and culture. This year marks its 58th iteration. On September 30, an open judging was held at Disport Minamiuonuma for the painting, sculpture, calligraphy, and photography categories, and the winners of the Nangyo-ten Awards and other prizes were decided. In the painting category, Takeo Ohira's "Jinsei Aranami Shoumetsu" won the Nangyo-ten Award, and Akiko Higuchi's "Mori no Koe wo Kikitai" received the Niigata Nippo Art Promotion Award. In sculpture, Kaori Yoneyama's "Daisuki na Ojiichan" won the Nangyo-ten Award, and Kenjiro Nakabayashi's "Chu" received the Yuzawa Town Mayor's Award. In calligraphy, Kyoko Otake's "Machi no Akane Shi Kaze no Sasayaki" won the Nangyo-ten Award, and Yuichi Saka's "Ibaragi Noriko no Shi yori" received the Nangyo-ten Support Association Chairman's Award. In photography, Kazuhisa Maruyama's "Tamashii no Kito" won the Nangyo-ten Award, and Masaaki Hoshino's "Haru no Kizashi" received the Minamiuonuma City Mayor's Award. Yuzawa Town residents who received awards include Akihiro Higuchi with the Encouragement Award for "Asu e no Kyoukai," and Ryoko Sakai and Miyuki Aoyama with Honorable Mentions for their respective works. The judges were Yoko Tanabe for painting, Hirofumi Saito for sculpture, Shisui Niwa for calligraphy, and Shichiro Igarashi for photography.
